The focus of our meeting was on preparing access to the WBG Pilot Line infrastructure for interested third parties, building on existing tech facilities in Italy, Poland, Sweden, Finland, France, Austria, and Germany. Here, industrial processes will be defined and optimized, and demonstrators will be qualified for subsequent market testing.

In general, the pilot line targets wide bandgap semiconductors, particularly SiC and GaN, as well as emerging materials such as AlN, which are used in high-power and high-frequency applications. The pilot line is characterized by the implementation of advanced manufacturing techniques that enable the integration of different materials to realize new devices and systems based on composite semiconductor materials. This approach ensures access to an unprecedented level of know-how and resources, enabling stakeholders to enter the strategic WBG market.

As one of five pilot lines, the WBG Pilot Line has been launched in 2025 under the Chips for Europe initiative, a key pillar of the European Chips Act. In the consortium, we work together with our valued partners from Fondazione Bruno Kessler - FBK, CNR-IMM, National Interuniversity Consortium for Nanoelectronics (IUNET), Fondazione Chips-IT, Lund University, Linköpings universitet, Chalmers University of Technology, Kungliga Tekniska högskolan, Tampere University, Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences, Institute of High Pressure Physics PAS, Łukasiewicz - Institute of Microelectronics and Photonics, Silicon Austria Labs and CEA-Leti.
