Fraunhofer IISB – Your partner in power electronic systems

As one of the 72 institutes and research units of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Systems and Device Technology IISB conducts contract research for industry and public authorities. Its main objective is to provide excellent research to its customers and to set technological benchmarks as one of the leading research institutions in electronic systems.

For this, about 220 employees plus numerous students work on a total area of approximately 7000 m². With various high-class laboratories allowing research and development on a broad range of power electronics, semiconductor technology, and materials developement.

Beside its headquarters in Erlangen, Fraunhofer IISB has branches in Nuremberg and Freiberg / Saxony. The institute closely cooperates with the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) and is a foundation member of the “Energie Campus Nürnberg” (EnCN).

As a member of the "Energie Campus   Nürnberg", the Fraunhofer IISB operates a 450 m2 branch lab conducting research on megawatt power electronics for application fields such as energy supply in the joint EnCN building in Nuremberg.

The THM, a joint department of Fraunhofer IISB and Fraunhofer ISE, focuses on innovative semiconductor materials to be used in microelectronics, optoelectronics, and photovoltaics. The IISB part of the THM comprises 650 m2.

Coming from Nuremberg (B4)

Follow the B4 from Nuremberg and take exit "Universität Südgelände", leave roundabout at the the second exit. Follow Kurt-Schumacher-Straße for about 1.5 km, then turn left onto Schottkystraße and follow the signs to "Fraunhofer Institut".

 

Via A3  

From the A3 motorway take exit "Erlangen-Tennenlohe", follow signs for Erlangen, after 2 km take exit "Universität Südgelände", leave roundabout at exit "Fraunhofer Institut", after 1.5 km turn left and follow the signs for the institute.

 

Travelling with electric / hybrid car: Visitors of IISB can use the charging station at the IISB main entrance for free. Please contact the reception desk.

 

By public transport

 

From Erlangen main station

Bus line 287 (direction Sebaldussiedlung) to stop "Technische Fakultät" or bus line 295 (direction Tennenlohe) to stop"Erlangen Süd". From there 10 minutes walk to the IISB. Alternative: taxi (30 min.).

 

From Nuremberg main station/ Nuremberg Messe

From Nuremberg Messe: Subway line U1 in the direction of Fürth to the stop "Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof" (Nuremberg main station). Change to Regionalexpress R2 (direction Jena) or S1 (direction Forchheim) to "Erlangen Bahnhof". Continue with bus line 287 (direction Sebaldussiedlung) to stop "Technische Fakultät" or bus line 295 (direction Tennenlohe) to stop "Erlangen Süd". From there 10 minutes walk to the IISB. Alternative: taxi (30 min.).

 

From Nuremberg airport

Bus line 30 (direction Erlangen) to "Erlangen Süd", from there 10 minutes walk to the IISB. Alternative: taxi (15 min.)

From the South (A6) / East (A9)

Take the A73 towards Fürth, then take the A3 / A73 exit in the direction of Bamberg. Continue to exit 40 "Nürnberg-Westring" and turn right onto Maximilianstraße. After 500 m turn left onto Fürther Straße, then turn left onto Muggenhofer Straße. After another 350 m you reach the parking area on the right.

 

From the North / West (A3)

Take the A73 towards Nürnberg-Süd / Fürth, then take exit 39 "Nürnberg-Fürth". Turn left onto Ludwig-Quellen-Straße and left onto Fürther Straße. After 900 m turn left onto Adolf-Braun-Straße / Sigmundstraße and then right onto Muggenhofer Straße. After another 400 m you reach the the parking area on the left.

 

By public transport

 

From Nuremberg main station / Nuremberg Messe

By underground line U1 in the direction of Fürth to the stop "Eberhardshof". Follow the signs to the exit "Raabstraße" (in the direction of travel).

 

From Nuremberg airport

By underground line U2 direction Röthenbach until stop "Plärrer". Change to line U1 direction Fürth and continue until stop "Eberhardshof". Follow the signs to the exit "Raabstraße" (in the direction of travel).

Coming from interstate A4:

Take the exit AS Siebenlehn onto B 101 to Freiberg. At the intersection of B 173 and B 101 turn left into Schillerstraße until you pass the post office. Turn right into Poststraße , which becomes Berthelsdorfer Straße, go straight and through the railway tunnel.

Turn left after the tunnel and into the second intersection into the industrial park “Gewerbegebiet Süd”. Take another left turn into St.-Niclas-Schacht street and go straight until you arrive at the GIZEF II building.

 

Coming from highway B 173 (Chemnitz):

Turn right after the movie theater Kinopolis at the city entrance into Karl-Kegel-Straße. Cross the highway B101 (Südkreuz) into Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße, go straight until you get to the railway tunnel. Turn right in front of the railway tunnel into Berthelsdorfer Sraße. Turn into the second intersection into the industrial park “Gewerbegebiet Süd”. Take another left turn into St.-Niclas-Schacht street and go straight until you arrive at the GIZEF II building.
