Automotive Prototyping

In many electrical configurations, a DC-DC converter stabilizes or boosts the energy from a battery or fuel cell to the HV power net. For motor sport applications or prototype vehicles, a robust but very small and light weight power electronic is essential. Within a very short time, the IISB develops and builds up A and B style grade prototypes. These are typically controlled by CAN and provide all basic safety and power conversation functions like active discharge, basic and reinforced isolation, voltage and current control loops and status feedback.

We developed in cooperation with the AUDI AG this highly efficient and compact DC-DC converter for automotive and industrial applications with harsh environmental conditions.


Bidirectional 245 kW Power Train DC-DC Converter

The converter is matched to the thermal behavior of traction batteries. It is capable of extreme power overload of +100%.


High Efficient 300 A Fuel Cell Booster

Fuel Cells have a high current and low voltage output that demands power conversion for most applications. Fraunhofer IISB has developed a DC-DC converter which is specially tailored to these requirements.
