European Aerospace Science Network (EASN) Conference 2026

With three scientific presentations, Fraunhofer IISB will showcase its broad research portfolio for future hydrogen-electric and climate-neutral aviation at the EASN conference 2026:

  • Dr. Markus Meindl will present research on scalable hydrogen-electric propulsion systems and advanced HV-DC power electronics for future regional aircraft.
  • Christian Bentheimer will introduce cryogenic propulsion technologies for next-generation hydrogen-electric aircraft.
  • Martin Wenger will present innovative concepts for sustainable aviation energy systems.

The presentations highlight Fraunhofer IISB's comprehensive expertise in hydrogen technologies, power electronics, and sustainable aviation. They cover the complete technology pathway: This journey begins with sustainable energy concepts and moves to today’s megawatt-class hydrogen-electric propulsion demonstrators, validated under the European Clean Aviation programme. Finally, it extends to future cryogenic power electronics and superconducting technologies for fully electric hydrogen aircraft. Together, these contributions demonstrate how intelligent system integration, scalable power electronics, and innovative architectures enable lighter, more efficient, and climate-neutral aviation.

Complementing Fraunhofer IISB's scientific contributions, Dr. Andreas Battenberg from the Fraunhofer Headquarters will present joint research on architecture-driven battery concepts for future more-electric aircraft. The presentation was developed in close collaboration with Fraunhofer IISB, with Dr. Markus Meindl, Martin Wenger, and Florian Hilpert contributing as co-authors, underlining the institute's active role in shaping the next generation of aircraft energy architectures.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Tolouse!
