Walk and Talk the Pilot Lines
We had the pleasure to welcome Eric Fribourg-Blanc, Senior Programme Officer at the Chips Joint Undertaking of the European Union, and Dirk Schumann, Managing Director of the APECS Pilot Line at the Research Fab Microelectronics Germany (FMD) in Erlangen.
During a tour of our institute, we showcased the IISB's entire R&D value chain from semiconductor materials, device technology and packaging up to complex power electronic systems for sustainable mobility and energy supply. Talking about the pilot lines within the EU Chips Act and their importance for strengthening European microelectronics research and industry, we outlined our holistic knowledge in (ultra-)wide-bandgap semiconductors and wide-bandgap-based power electronics.
As Fraunhofer IISB is the only German partner within the European Wide-Bandgap Pilot Line (WBG PL) and represents it within the German microelectronics research community, it was a great opportunity to discuss the strategic collaboration among the different pilot lines with colleagues from Chips JU and APECS.
