ILA Berlin Air Show

Established in 1909, ILA Berlin is the world's oldest air show, and it is Europe’s leading aerospace trade fair today.

At ILA Berlin, industry representatives, policymakers, armed forces, and academia come together to discuss current challenges and opportunities. Exhibitors from all over the world show their latest developments, innovative solutions, and research projects around the three key topics Innovation, New Technologies and Sustainability. ILA Berlin features the entire value chain and every tier of the aerospace industry, from Aviation, Space and Defence & Support, to Advanced Air Mobility and the Supplier sector.
 

At ILA Berlin 2024, Fraunhofer IISB will be presenting exciting exhibits and technologies from the field of aviation electronics, including among others:

• Night Fury: The unmanned vertical take-off aircraft "NF4" was developed by the Evolonic student team in cooperation with Fraunhofer IISB for the automatic detection of forest fires. It has on-board edge computing hardware and uses artificial intelligence to reliably detect smoke columns at a distance of 2 km.
• Cryo-converter: Thy cryogenic 500 kW drive converter, which is cooled with liquid nitrogen at -196 °C, has been developed in cooperation with Airbus UpNext. In its ASCEND program, Airbus is building a prototype of a fully cryogenic electric aircraft engine.
• Electric propeller drive: Aircraft propeller (approx. 2 m diameter) with electric motor and power electronics in the megawatt class.
